“Spinning and Weaving In Palestine” 1970

A little relic published by the British Museum, written by Shelagh Weir. I found it while searching for material on middle eastern and mediterranean spindles. There is a brief typology, but what the work really presents a richly illustrated overview of traditional textile practices in 20th century Palestine. I was specially interested in the various methods of spinning where the spindle is rolled on the thigh or between the feet, as pictured on the cover.

Uma pequena relíquia publicada pelo Museu Britânico, escrita por Shelagh Weir. Encontrei-o enquanto procurava material sobre os fusos no médio oriente mediterrâneo. Tem uma breve tipologia, mas é sobretudo um trabalho mais geral de resumo ilustrado das práticas tradicionais textêis na Palestina do século XX. Chamaram-me à atenção os vários métodos descritos em que o fuso é rolado na perna ou até entre os pés, como se vê na capa.
