Carmeada

March 7, 2015

There are six skeins, some small some bigger. I spun them all with carmeada wool. Carmeada is a portuguese word for wool that is opened by hand for spinning, without cards or combs. This is the way people used to prepare wool for spinning in my grandmother’s village, where there was only one available pair of hand cards. The process takes a lot longer but it is kind of meditative. The result is a less uniform but more sheep-like yarn. For these skeins I used a mix of Portuguese merino fleeces in white and yellowish tones. Some of these are already available in the shop.
