My Yarn Wishlist 2015

Já não compro fios há mais de um ano (*confissão*). Em parte porque comecei a dedicar mais tempo à fiação, mas também porque com restos de meadas acumuladas ao longo dos anos há sempre qualquer coisa que se aproveite em casa. Com o guarda-fatos repleto de camisolas, casacos, luvas, meias… já não me faz falta quase nada e o ritmo do tricot abrandou. Quem sabe este Verão me decida a pegar outra vez nas agulhas e dar descanso à roda. Entretanto, aqui ficam alguns dos fios e marcas que mais admiro neste começo de ano.

I haven’t bought yarn for over a year (there, I said it). Part of it is that I have started to dedicate a lot more time to spinning, but also because I have so many leftover skeins  at home. With my wardrobe full of sweaters, jackets, gloves, socks… I don’t really need anything else and so my knitting rhythm has slowed down. Who knows, maybe this  summer I’ll pick up the needles and let the wheel rest. Meanwhile, here are some of the yarns and brands that I am loving at the start of 2015.

Não sei sé por vir de tão longe, se é pelas cores naturais, mas estou fascinada com esta lãs. O fio chileno feito a partir das ovelhas de raça Milchschaft é lindo. Vale a pena seguir aqui.

I am not sure if it is because it comes from far away or because of the beautiful colours, but I am fascinated by this wool. This Chilean yarn made from the wool of Milchsaft sheep is gorgeous. Follow it here.

Uma das novas marcas de que mais gosto é a Moeke Yarns, criada por uma socióloga romena a viver na Holanda.  O fio é uma tentativa de revalorizar o rico patimónio têxtil romeno e de homenagear também a avó dos dois irmãos que fundaram a marca. A ler aqui e a seguir aqui.

One of my favourite new brands is Moeke Yarns, founded by a Romanian sociologist living in the Netherlands. This yarns is an attempt at renewing the rich Romanian textile heritage and a tribute to the grandmother of the sister and brother behind the making of this yarn. I have already talked Obrador Xisqueta here on the blog and of how inspiring this project is. My favourite skeins are the simplest, all white with no dyeing. A good texture is all I need.

For those of us who are well acquainted with the cobertores de papa (Portuguese traditional blankets), this is the magical yarn that was missing from our lives. It looks nice knitted, it looks spectacular carded. After seeing this vest, I couldn’t stop making plans for this yarn. Worth following here.

A Woolful Mercantile é uma das lojas que acabou de abrir e já é uma referência. Os fios Sheep to Sweater são o exemplo do meu tipo de fio favorito. Produzidos, tosquiados, processados e fiados pela mesma pessoa. É em muitos aspectos o meu fio ideal.

Woolful Mercantile is one of those shops that has been a reference from day one. Their Sheep to Sweater yarns are an example of what I think yarn should be like. Produced, shorn, processed and spun by one single person. It’s in many ways my ideal yarn.
